INITIATIVES TAKEN BY AASTHA JADABPUR DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC
COVID-19 pandemic had made an unprecedented impact worldwide and India has entered into a total lockdown by invoking the special provision of Epidemic Diseases Act of 1897 and Disaster Management Act, 2015 from end of March, 2020. The complete lockdown policy has a direct and indirect impact on Homeless Persons with Mental Illness (HPMI) concerning shelter, basic needs and access to health care, besides the transmission of COVID infection. The migratory labors were forced to come back to their homes but were unable to return due to non-availability of any transportation. As a result they were hooked up by no other choice other than living in foot path. AASTHA JADABPUR being one of the leading organization for providing service for shelter for homeless people entered into this arena. They were informed by the police station of Tollygunje, Kalighat and Rashbehari to provide the services for the people living in the footpath. We work laboriously day and night to deliver a healthy home like environment for the homeless people in the shelters.
